Service Description: Poverty rates are calculated from the American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data for Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs) by race-ethnicity and age. Census tract level poverty rates are obtained by multiplying the ACS 5-Year PUMA rates by the ratio of each tract’s total poverty rate divided by its PUMA total poverty rate. The poverty numbers are controlled to County level poverty rates by race-ethnicity, which are projections from the previous year ACS 1-Year PUMS data file. As a final step, the estimates of poverty are smoothed so that changes from the estimates of previous year are not too extreme for any tract.Poverty Variablesw = White Non-Hispanicsb = Black or African American Non-Hispanicsi = American Indian or Alaskan Native Non-Hispanicsa = Asian Non-Hispanicsp = Pacific Islander or Hawaiian Native Non-Hispanicsh = HispanicLast character:“a” = estimate of persons below the 100% poverty level“b” = estimate of persons below the 130% poverty level“c” = estimate of persons below the 133% poverty level“d” = estimate of persons below the 200% poverty level
