Overview:
This layer shows Hillside Management areas, which are essentially anything with a 25% or greater slope. It is broken down by '25 - 50%', and 'greater than 50%' slope categories for all unincorporated areas with the following exceptions:
Forest land that is not a private inholding

Forest land outside of a CSD boundary

Forest land outside of unincorporated community boundaries that go into the forest

Deleted all polygons less than 25 sq. ft.
Below is a description of the source Digital Elevation Model and Slope that went into creating this dataset.
Digital Elevation Model / LAR-IAC 7:
This 1 meter Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a model of surface elevation in the County of Los Angeles developed by the Los Angeles Regional Imagery Consortium (LAR-IAC). The LAR-IAC project encompasses the entire land area of Los Angeles County in mainland plus Catalina Island. The Area of Digital Elevation Model data developed over the Urban/Suburban area mainland covers approximately 4214 square miles. Tiles were downloaded in September, 2025 from the USGS National Map: https://apps.nationalmap.gov/lidar-explorer/#/. This dataset was re-projected from the original NAD83, UTM Zone 11N projection to State Plan, CA Zone V. The grid size is 3.28 x 3.28 feet to be equivalent to 1 meter.
Detailed product information (including accuracy report) is contained in the LAR-IAC7 Product Guide.
We highly recommend that you visit the LAR-IAC Project Website to find a rich source of information about the data and the LAR-IAC program. The site includes project documents, full FGDC compliant metadata, data downloads of related GIS used to complete the project, sub-licensing information, sample imagery and data, and information about this acquisition.
GIS Data showing flight-date information is available from the LAR-IAC Project website site, and elsewhere in the LA County GIS Data Portal
Update History:
11/30/15 - originally added to SDE

10/30/25 - Loaded into SDE and replaced the former version of Hillside Management that was generated in 2006.

",
