The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) creates and provides authoritative data related to flood insurance. Using that data, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has developed a public-facing web viewer for accessing flood zone information in the County of Los Angeles (Flood Zone Determination Website). Flood zones are represented by letters for special flood hazard areas by FEMA. For example, Zone A areas have a 1 percent annual chance of flooding. This flood is also called the 100-year flood. Property owners with structures in Flood Zone A, which have a federally backed mortgage are required to obtain flood insurance.<\/SPAN><\/P>
